READ CAREFULLY BEFORE BUYING

In today's world of global trade, the importance of the content and presentation of a label for the consumer is growing by leaps and bounds. More and more products are bought - or not bought - on the strength of their labels, meaning that these latter assume an ever-increasing commercial significance. The wise consumer is the consumer who shops around and compares, and he/she uses the product and its label to make judgements.

The explosion in the use of labels in the world marketplace is dirctly linked to the fact that today's better informed consumers have higher expectations and want to know more about what is in a product before making their purchasing decision. Furthermore with environmental questions also influencing purchases, correct labelling is becoming an ethical, as well as a commercial issue.

There is need for good, complete, easy to read, truthful product labels - labels that would not be direct or indirect, deliberate or accidental barriers to trade, labels that would give as immediate an idea as possible of the content, the effects and qualities of the product.
